Najib Razak, Pak Lah appointed to Umno advisory committee

NAJIB Razak and Abdullah Ahmad Badawi have been appointed to the Umno advisory committee chaired by party veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah.

Umno acting president Mohamad Hasan confirmed the appointment, which he said was made at a recent Umno Supreme Council meeting.

“Yes, the Supreme Council has appointed the two former presidents to the committee,” Mohamad told The Malaysian Insight.

Mohamad said this when commenting on a message that has gone viral on social media that he had formed an Umno Chairman’s Council (MPU) to set a new direction for the party.

The message had said the Najib would chair the council while Abdullah would be the deputy.ten

“Don’t be confused. Both of them have been appointed to the committee and there is no council,” he said while stating that Tengku Razaleigh was still the chairman of the party’s advisory committee.

The advisory committee was announced on July 27 by Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who said Tengku Razaleigh would chair it and appoint its members.

Zahid said the committee will help set the direction for the party as an opposition entity.

The committee was among nine committees which were formed by Zahid after he was elected party chief.

The duties of the committee ranged from looking after Malay rights to ensuring the status of Islam as the official religion of the federation was maintained. – December 29, 2018.
