DR Mahathir Mohamad sarcastically responded to a tweet from entrepreneur Lim Kok Wing, who today declared his support for the prime minister despite having criticised him when he was in the federal opposition.
Lim’s attempt to curry favour with Dr Mahathir today drew scorn from the latter’s daughter Marina, who blasted the founder of the Lim Kok Wing University for being disingenuous, and later from Dr Mahathir himself.
“We know some people use shortcuts. When people are in power, they support the people in power. When they are no longer in power, they don’t support them.
“After these people regain power, they support them again,” Dr Mahathir told reporters after speaking at the Bersatu Youth annual general assembly.
Lim had once been a staunch supporter of Dr Mahathir during the latter’s first term as prime minister from 1981 to 2002.
He then became a critic of Dr Mahathir when the latter set up Bersatu in the years leading up to the 14th general election.
This fact was seized upon by Marina, who today replied to Lim’s tweet: “Do stop it @limkokwing! Where were you last year? Who was it who told Dad to shut up to ‘preserve his legacy’?. If Pakatan Harapan hadn’t won, would you have snuck into our house uninvited (during Hari) Raya to apologise? Just stop it.”
Asked today if he had forgiven Lim, Dr Mahathir said: I am a very forgiving person. I can even forgive you.” – December 29, 2018.
