JARINGAN Melayu Malaysia (JMM) president Azwanddin Hamzah has seven days to apologise and pay RM30 million in damages to DAP lawmaker Teresa Kok, failing which she will sue him.
This is stated in a letter of demand sent to Azwanddin by Kok’s lawyers over his remarks linking her to the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman temple riots last month.
The primary industries minister is demanding a retraction, an apology and RM30 million in damages from the Malay rights group leader.
The letter was issued after Kok yesterday said she wants to sue Azwanddin over his speech at a rally demanding justice for late firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim in Klang.
Azwanddin told protesters that Kok has links to the developer that owns the land on which the temple sits.
He also said Kok has not denied having ties with the developer, One City Development Sdn Bhd.
Adib died last week, succumbing to injuries sustained during violence at the temple on November 27.
In the letter, sent by legal firm S.N. Nair & Partners today, Kok’s lawyers told Azwanddin that his remarks at yesterday’s rally implied, among others, that Kok is racist and dishonest, and abused her power as minister.
They said the RM30 million in damages sought is for “injuries” caused to Kok. – December 26, 2018.
