MORE than 1,500 protesters gathered at Dataran Seni in Klang today, demanding that Dr Mahathir Mohamad sack Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department P. Waytha Moorthy within 40 days.

The rally, organised by Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia (Geras), also called for justice for Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim, the firefighter who died following violence at the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman temple in Subang Jaya.

Geras president Abu Bakar Mohamed, in his speech, urged Waytha Moorthy, who is in charge of unity, to step down, saying he is responsible for the racial tensions in Malaysia.

“We have compromised with them, give and take, but it turns out, they’ve kept taking. Now, I am asking Waytha Moorthy to quit,” he said, pointing to a picture of the minister on a banner.

“Is he qualified to be the minister in charge of unity? No!

“We have a social contract. I hope we learn about the nation’s history, as only then can we rise.”

The protesters held special prayers for Adib before marching from Bandar Diraja Klang Mosque to Dataran Seni.

They carried signs reading “Keadilan untukmu Adib” (Justice for Adib), and shouted “Allahuakbar”, Hidup Melayu” (Long live Malays) and “Hidup Islam” (Long live Islam).

Present were actress Ellie Suriaty Omar and Jaringan Melayu Malaysia president Azwanddin Hamzah.

Adib was seriously injured during a riot at the temple last month. He succumbed to his injuries on December 17.

Police are investigating his death as murder.

Abu Bakar said they will send a memorandum today outlining their demands to the prime minister and Yang di-Pertuan Agung Sultan Muhammad V and Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

Gabungan Pelajar Melayu Semenanjung president Zamri Mohd Isa said they want Putrajaya to form a royal commission of inquiry (RCI) to investigate Adib’s death.

“Our struggle does not end with today’s demonstration. We want the government to form an RCI. Why is the government delaying it?” he asked in his speech. – December 25, 2018.

    • It is extremely bad that an innocent young firefighter in uniform appears to have been deliberately (?) set upon and assaulted in a melee (which got out of hand) with life-threatening injuries. A no. of people have been charged in court. These court cases should be expedited for the public good, to help bring about calm? Does it not seem at the moment that the developer has to bear sole re7snoricility for this fracas & blot on the nation?..

  • Inconsiderate fools. You are insensitive to hold this event on Christmas day when people are busy with the celebrations. I am surprised that the police allowed this.

  • Its not the unity minister who has to be penalised. He is innocent..
The singular person or group of persons responsible for this is One City Developers who paid certain persons to create chaos at the Maha Mariamman Temple. They engaged or commissioned the legal advisor or company employees to pay a group of gangsters, which then resulted in the chaos at the temple.
    So, here is the question....
    1. What happened to One City Development? Any action taken?
    2. What happened to the investigation of the One City Legal Counsel and employees involved? Were charges brought against them?
    3. What happened to the 50-odd gangsters who took over the temple, and ultimately caused chaos at the temple and eventually led to the death of a fire-man?
Have the investigations on these people being done/completed? Were they charged? Can the matter be deemed closed upon their conviction?

  • The Minister should never resign.. it is easy for Kadir Jasin, Minister Rina and the Bersatu Youth leader Syed to call for the resignation of the minister.. This is not the collective action of a fair and equitable PH government that practices fairness... It appears that the Government is influenced by actions of people - the louder they scream, the more easily the decisions of the weak government are swayed..
It appears that each and every minister in Dr Ms cabinet will just look after his or her own welfare.. Like a Dig eat dog world.. every man or woman for himself/herself.. What a let down..

  • Pohdahlah JMM. Why 40 days? Why not 4 days? Who do you think you are? You are just a form of scUMNO parasites. Don't use the deceased person for your selfish agenda.

  • When you have Azwanddin and Ellie Suriaty around and participating in a protest, the rally has taken another form to be trouble making in shit stirring. Both are retards and blind supporters of Najib. They are known to scream and shout without knowing what they are screaming about for. The late Adib will never rest in peace when these two scumbags start contaminating the actual cause for the rally which by the way many are still wondering what's the rally for ??? Police are still investigating and the man whom they purposely denigrate are not the cause of the problems while the main culprits who are the cause of the riot are laughing quietly to themselves on the stupidity of the protesters in their non ability to differentiate who is right and who is wrong
