MAKE it compulsory to pass Islamic and moral studies to tackle rising crime among students, said PAS information chief Nasruddin Hassan.
Nasruddin is suggesting the opposite of what the Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad proposes to do, which is for the schools to reduce focus on religious studies.
The PAS man said the education system must be integrated with “divine” education to allow intellectual growth.
“We would like the federal government to overhaul the curriculum to put more emphasis on integrated knowledge, that is referring to the merging of divine and intellectual education.
“The Islamic and moral studies subjects must also be made compulsory for passing in the country’s main examinations,” said the former PAS MP in a statement.
Such a hybrid education could be successful, he said, citing integrated religious primary schools, the Ulul Albab Mara Science College and the science maahad tahfiz as successful examples.
He said the schools had been well-received by parents in Kelantan and Terengganu. – December 24, 2018.
