THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is going through the documents seized from five premises yesterday related to the RM16 million compensation allegedly paid out to Jana Niaga by Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI), a Selangor-owned company.

The investigating team is collecting information and evidence related to the payment and contract given to Jana Niaga Sdn Bhd.

MACC Investigation Department director Simi Abd Ghani said further action will be taken once the documents have been reviewed.

According to a source, a few witnesses have been identified to assist in the probe.

Yesterday, the graft-busters raided University Selangor (Unisel), MBI and Jana Niaga Sdn Bhd.

They were acting on a report lodged against Selangor Mentri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali and MBI over a dispute between Unisel and its contractor, Jana Niaga.

It was reported that Jana Niaga’s contract was renewed with Unisel, despite failing to complete a previous job.

Azmin, who is currently on an investment mission in Europe until Friday, described the raids as an attempt to smear Selangor’s image

It is believed that a box of documents from the MB’s office was also confiscated.

In a joint statement today, MBI and Unisel said they would give their full cooperation to MACC during the course of the investigation.

MBI chief executive officer Raja Shahreen Raja Othman along with Unisel vice-chancellor and president Dr Mohammad Redzuan Othman also said they will provide all evidence and give statements to assist in the investigation.

The five premises raided were the Unisel offices in Shah Alam and Bestari Jaya, the Jana Niaga Sdn Bhd office in Desa Pandan and Bestari Jaya as well as MBI office in Shah Alam. – August 23, 2017.
