Nurul Izzah 'sick and tired' of power games, says Anwar

NURUL Izzah Anwar quit her posts in PKR because she is sick and tired of those who are more interested in playing politics instead of focusing on helping the people, said Anwar Ibrahim

The PKR president said his daughter became disillusioned after Umno MPs deserted their party, with talk swirling that they did so to save themselves from possible prosecution and shore up the numbers of another political party.

“Despite being elected vice-president with an overwhelming majority and appointed Penang PKR chairman following a convincing majority of the state’s division chiefs, she has chosen to step down.

“This is an indictment of certain individuals within the party leadership, whose deceptive platitudes place individual greed above party unity,” he said in a statement today.

Nurul Izzah, the Permatang Pauh MP, announcement on Monday that she was quitting as PKR party vice-president and chair of Penang PKR shocked the nation.

She had said she “regretted” not making the decision sooner, and would now focus on being a government backbencher committed to reforms.

Nurul Izzah said there were “beliefs and ideals” she held dear to and felt she could be “most true to them” with her resignation.

Anwar today said Nurul’s decision is a great loss to the nation and called on everybody to respect her decision and give her space to decide on her next course of action.

“Many think it is an impulsive act that was not well thought out. However, I believe that it is completely in keeping with the character of someone who has always had the courage to stand up for her ideals and beliefs,” he said.

The Port Dickson MP said for the last 20 years, the spirit of “reformasi” has been burning within Nurul Izzah.

“The 9th of May was a watershed for many reasons, but our victory in attaining greater democratic space will count for nothing if the agenda for reform is sabotaged.

“With her sense of duty and commitment, of placing the interests of the rakyat above hers, I have no doubt that she will continue to serve honourably and admirably.” – December 21, 2018.

  • This is reality.. This is what politics.. Its not always a rosy picture.. Im surprised she doesnt see this at all..
No point being sick and tired if you are not prepared to face whatever the challenges.. I think even before she got started, she already gave up..

  • I am puzzled as to why she suddenly saw the light only after Rafizi and her father's proxies were defeated in the PKR elections. Until then, she was happily cruising along, not having any comments about the widespread cheating that was going on in their favour. Strange light that has shone on her and her father.

Let's not forget that this family's battle was always for their father, and their father's interests. 'Reformasi' was a convenient borrowed label to use to fight for him, and less that for the country.

True colours are easily observed in the opportunistic company she keeps. KJ, seriously?

  • strange coming out from Anwar's mouth. The heaviest dirty politicking has always being revolved around Umno and PKR. A very lame excuse far from the actual truth. In fact Nurul have already been battle harden in all come what may of the dirty politics. She has undergone thru' more than 3 GE and heavily exposed to the reformation movement where nothing matters but politics only. Come of it.!!! Only now she is tired and disappointed???. If she is truly disgusted and regretted for late in the decision making in getting out of politic, strange it may seen but the breakfast and lunch meeting are not with ordinary soul but two notorious downthrodden politicians trying hard to make a come back in what ever devious way they could devise up. Beats me how she and her papa arrived at that decision. Incredulous and very unconvincing sandiwara.

  • Let Nurul Izzah speak for herself. First Rais Husin spoke for her, now DSAI. Let the lady open her mouth and tell us what the deal is, there is no need for all and sundry to interpret according to what suits their own personal and political agenda.
