RAHIM Thamby Chik’s past is of no consequence now, said Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin, after the former submitted his application to join the Pakatan Harapan coalition party earlier today.
He said the former Umno man’s application must be seen in the present context and in view of the new political scenario in the country.
“We can’t just be looking at the past. We need to be updated to plan our strategy,” he said after officiating Malacca Bersatu’s convention in Alor Gajah today.
Muhyiddin, who is also home minister, said Bersatu had yet to decide whether to accept the former Malacca chief minister into the party.
Earlier today, Rahim applied to join Bersatu, saying that Umno had lost its spirit of struggle for the Malays, which he said had now shifted to Bersatu.
“I am sad to leave Umno after having struggled for more than 40 years to champion the Malays. I quit the party because Bersatu can champion the Malays better, more efficiently and effectively.
“The mistake Umno leaders made in sowing a culture of corruption has become a cancer that has eaten through Umno’s roots, leading to its fall,” Bernama reported him as saying today.
Rahim was the sixth chief minister of Malacca from April 26, 1982, to October 14, 1994. He was also Umno Youth chief from 1993 to 1996.
His decision to quit Umno and enter Bersatu has been criticised by several quarters from within PH.
DAP MP for Kota Melaka Khoo Poay Tiong said accepting Rahim into Bersatu would damage the integrity of the state government and weaken the peoples’ confidence in PH in Malacca.
He also labelled Rahim the “father of all scandals”, pointing to the number of scandals he had been involved in during his time in Umno. – December 16, 2018.

This man, whom you are protecting & supporting, caused innocent LGE to be jailed. This man, whom you are protecting & supporting had allegedly raped and under-aged girl although the charges were not preferred.
With that kind of background, it can only be deduced that such a character would have been a thug and bully during his hay days.. Accepting him today means Bersatu is condoning all bad and unacceptable practices, something that obviously goes against the belief of the Rakyat.
If this is going to be Bersatus trend.. and if Bersatu is part of PH coalition, you wont have my vote at the next GE..

He is a highly controversial figure to be accepted into your party, I am most certain it would have a negative impact for all the crimes & negativity he brings with him.. There is no need to tarnish the image of Bersatu... By accepting him, you & Bersatu are condoning all his follies and crimes..
