NO new arrests of any middleman or mastermind in connection to the attack at the Sri Maha Mariamman temple in Subang Jaya have been made by the police.

Selangor police chief Mazlan Mansor said this in response to a viral social media post claiming that the police had recently arrested a man at Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 for helping hire a group of gangsters to attack the temple.

The report said the man was detained by a team from the Klang Selatan district police headquarters.

Mazlan told The Malaysian Insight the man in the news was actually detained on December 3 and had been released on bail since then.

“The news are not true. He was already detained and was released on police bail on December 6. Investigations on the man are still ongoing.

“We urge the public not to spread unreliable news on social media. This is fake news made to sensationalise the issue,” said Mazlan.

Another source close to the investigation also denied new arrests were made at klia2.

“The story of the arrest is not true,” the senior police officer told The Malaysian Insight.

It was reported yesterday that the man was arrested at Terminal 2 of klia2. A message containing the information of the arrest later went viral.

No date of arrest was mentioned in the message, but the man’s myKad number and his address were revealed in the post.

The message said the man had allegedly received RM150,000 from lawyers representing the developer and had given RM50,000 of that amount to a third party to launch the attack on the night of November 26.

So far, police have arrested more than 100 suspects involved in the riot at the temple, of which more than a dozen people have been charged at court. – December 16, 2018.

  • Who gave the RM150,000? Did he not commit any offence in the books? RM50,000 was paid out to the thugs. Where is the balance RM100,000?

  • Has the person who paid him the RM150,000 been arrested too? Or is he still free?
