MCA will write to Barisan Nasional to request that the coalition be dissolved, in keeping with the wishes of the ethnic Chinese party’s grassroots at its recent general assembly.
The party’s central committee said it unanimously voted to officially write to the BN supreme council at a meeting today, where MCA leaders affirmed the resolutions overwhelmingly passed by central delegates at the 56th general assembly on December 2.
“The resolutions include Resolution 1.1, whereby ‘the general assembly authorises the central committee to pave the way for the dissolution of BN and forge an effective alliance’.
“In accordance with the decision taken by the general assembly and resolved by the central committee, the MCA headquarters will convey a letter to the Barisan Nasional supreme council to request the formal dissolution of BN,” the central committee said in a statement today.
It said the decision was made after taking into account today’s political environment as well as the views of its young and older members.
MCA contested 39 parliamentary seats in the 14th general election but won only one – Ayer Hitam in Johor – held by its president, Wee Ka Siong.
One of the original parties in the pre-independence coalition, the Alliance, it has been at crossroads since BN lost its grip on federal power for the first time in GE14. – December 13, 2018.
