TRANSPORT Minister Anthony Loke today said he will leave it to experts to reach a solution in the row between Malaysia and Singapore over the new instrument landing system (ILS) at Seletar Airport.

He said he will not join the discussions scheduled to be held next month.

“Enough said on ILS. Both sides will sit down and meet in mid-January. On our side, we have come up with a video to explain the issue to the public.

“I’ll leave it to the technical experts from both sides to thrash it out,” he told reporters at the Happy Guests, Caring Hosts Service Culture Transformation Programme at klia2.

Malaysia has sent a protest note to Singapore over the republic’s plan to use southern Johor airspace for flight operations at Seletar.

It was reported that Loke said Singapore, without Malaysia’s consent, issued new ILS procedures for the airport on December 1, to be enforced on January 3.

The Seremban MP said the ILS procedures, which provide precision lateral and vertical guidance to aircraft approaching and landing on the runway, in Singapore’s Aeronautical Information Publication will jeopardise development in Pasir Gudang.

The commercial Seletar Airport in northeastern Singapore is located 2km from the Johor border.

Loke said Putrajaya remains committed to defending the nation’s interests and sovereignty.

He told the Dewan Rakyat earlier this month that Malaysia, on November 29, informed Singapore of its plans to take back its delegated airspace in stages, with the first phase to begin at the end of next year, and the next phase in 2023. – December 13, 2018.
