JOHOR Crown Prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim posted a series of attacks on Twitter apparently targeted at Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad over the degazettement of Pulau Kukup as a national park.
Over the weekend, Tunku Ismail, who is popularly known by the Malay acronym of his title of TMJ, said the island would be better protected as a “sultanate” land, as opposed to being controlled by outsiders if it remained a national park.
However, earlier today, Dr Mahathir rebutted Tunku Ismail’s statement, saying that the federal government was made up of Malaysians who were not “outsiders”, and that the island should remain a national park so that it will not be developed.
“Malaysians are not outsiders. The federal government is not an outsider. We are responsible for all things in the country,” said Dr Mahathir.
In a series of tweets after that, Tunku Ismail lashed out at what he called “senile” statements on Pulau Kukup, and while he did not specifically name Dr Mahathir, appeared to make references to the prime minister’s earlier comments.
“Who is developing Pulau Kukup?? Dah terangkan 4 times… ow i see.. Nyanyuk! (I’ve explained it four times. Oh, I see… Senile!)
“Its ok. Malaikat pun Salah. (Even angels can be wrong) Picasso, control your grandpa,” he tweeted.

Tunku Ismail also alluded to Dr Mahathir’s first stint as prime minister when he warned the veteran politician not to “spin” the crown prince’s statements on Pulau Kukup.
“Jangan spin! Back in the old days you can spin because you control the media. Now? Welcome to 2018…,” he wrote.
The status of Pulau Kukup has been a hot-button issue following Johor’s decision to degazette the island as a national park and re-designate it as “sultanate land”, handing over control of the island to the sultan of Johor.
On Friday, the cabinet had agreed that Pulau Kukup should remain a national park.
