TMJ hits out at ‘senile’ comments after Dr Mahathir’s rebuke over national park

JOHOR Crown Prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim posted a series of attacks on Twitter apparently targeted at Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad over the degazettement of Pulau Kukup as a national park.

Over the weekend, Tunku Ismail, who is popularly known by the Malay acronym of his title of TMJ, said the island would be better protected as a “sultanate” land, as opposed to being controlled by outsiders if it remained a national park.

However, earlier today, Dr Mahathir rebutted Tunku Ismail’s statement, saying that the federal government was made up of Malaysians who were not “outsiders”, and that the island should remain a national park so that it will not be developed.

“Malaysians are not outsiders. The federal government is not an outsider. We are responsible for all things in the country,” said Dr Mahathir.

In a series of tweets after that, Tunku Ismail lashed out at what he called “senile” statements on Pulau Kukup, and while he did not specifically name Dr Mahathir, appeared to make references to the prime minister’s earlier comments.

“Who is developing Pulau Kukup?? Dah terangkan 4 times… ow i see.. Nyanyuk! (I’ve explained it four times. Oh, I see… Senile!)

“Its ok. Malaikat pun Salah. (Even angels can be wrong) Picasso, control your grandpa,” he tweeted.

Tunku Ismail also alluded to Dr Mahathir’s first stint as prime minister when he warned the veteran politician not to “spin” the crown prince’s statements on Pulau Kukup.

“Jangan spin! Back in the old days you can spin because you control the media. Now? Welcome to 2018…,” he wrote.

The status of Pulau Kukup has been a hot-button issue following Johor’s decision to degazette the island as a national park and re-designate it as “sultanate land”, handing over control of the island to the sultan of Johor.

On Friday, the cabinet had agreed that Pulau Kukup should remain a national park.

Pulau Kukup is the second largest undeveloped mangrove island in the world. – December 10, 2018.

  • Just simply shows that he doesnt understand the subject matter. His comments are frivolous.. no content, no value.. just doesnt know how to reply to the senior statesman. Most importantly it shows his immaturity.. after all he is young..

  • Sound like many useless UMNO and PAS leaders. Can't reply properly with decorum or facts, called the opponents, "senile", "orang tua", "mamak kutta", "babi", "balik tongsan" and etc.

  • Since all parties agree that Pulau Kukup will not be developed then there is no reason to degazette the land as a protected area. Federal Government should be allowed control over it. The island is the heritage of all Malaysians and should be protected as such for all timess

  • High time this highly arrogant Prince is put in place in his demeanour. This is not just Johore but a country we call Malaysia and all the Malaysian are watching you and it reflects on your dad . Do not go overboard. It is very unbecoming of a Princely behaviour to ridicule an old experience well respected PM golbally. This is our own PM and not others for you to vent your undesirable reamarks. Did any of your Johore Royal family receive global accolades base on merits like Tun M . None so far apart from customary honors. So you are in no position to disparage the PM. Behave please.!!!!!

  • We Asians were taught to respect our elders, and there are classier ways to rebuke without sounding like a total spazzo. Lead by example, humility maketh the man. Are certain people so confident the government they fear and loathe who miraculously won GE14 will never be able to beat the odds again to wrestle 2/3 majority in Parliament some day?

Our culture of respect for our elderly, especially one who is super amazing and towers fsr anove the average person is not reflected at all by this low class comment. Reflects badly on those who brought you up. A pity indeed.

  • Strongly agree with Tun M. Well said Sir. A National Heritage like Pulau Kukup should remain a National Treasure under Federal jurisdiction to be appreciated by all Malaysians and yes, even "outsiders"
