IN protest against Dewan Rakyat Speaker Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof’s decision to prohibit C. Sivarraajh from today’s parliamentary sitting, opposition leader Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and 10 other Barisan Nasional MPs staged a walkout.
The Bagan Datuk MP said Sivarraajh was still legitimately an MP as he was still appealling the Election Court’s Friday ruling that declared the Cameron Highlands parliamentary seat, which he won in the 14th general election, vacant.
“BN MPs protested the speaker’s decision not allow the Cameron Highland’s MP to be in the hall by leaving the hall.
“The Election Court’s decision will only be final if there are no appeals within 14 days. If the appeal is filed, then (Sivarraajh) is still eligible to be at the Parliament sitting until a federal judgement is made,” Zahid, accompanied by other BN MPs, said at a press conference in the Parliament building today.
Among the MPs that walked out 10 minutes before the sitting this morning were Ahmad Maslan (Pontian), Wee Ka Siong (Ayer Hitam), Ismail Sabri Yaakob (Bera) and Tajuddin Abdul Rahman (Pasir Salak).
However, PAS MPs stayed in the hall for the sitting.
Yesterday, Ariff ordered Sivarraajh, who is also MIC vice-president, out of the Parliament hall after the Election Court declared the Cameron Highlands seat vacant last week.
Sivarraajh was told he had to stay out pending clarification on whether the Election Court had issued a stay order on its declaration that the Cameron Highlands seat would remain vacant until the appeal process was concluded.
The court had declared the Cameron Highlands parliamentary seat vacant last Friday after finding sitting Sivarraajh guilty of bribing Orang Asli voters in the run-up to the May 9 general election. β December 6, 2018.
