Charges trumped up to distract from Pakatan’s failures, says Jho Low

FUGITIVE businessman Low Taek Jho maintained his innocence despite being charged over the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) scandal in Kuala Lumpur today, saying today that his charges were trumped up to divert attention away from the “failures” of the Pakatan Harapan government.

In a statement issued on his behalf by a public relations firm based in Sydney, Australia, Low, also known as Jho Low, maintained that he was a victim of a political vendetta by Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s administration.

“These charges are intended to create another false sense of security for the political loss the Mahathir regime has brought upon itself due to its failures on current issues, disregard for the rule of law, and intentional misinterpretation of the constitution,” he said.

“They are no more than a continuation of the trial by media and political reprisals by the Mahathir regime.”

Earlier today, Low along with four others, were jointly charged at the Kuala Lumpur sessions court. Later at the Kuala Lumpur magistrate’s court, fresh arrest warrants were issued against all five fugitives.

Low reiterated that he would not “submit to any jurisdiction where guilt has been predetermined by politics and there is no independent legal process”.

“It is clear that Mr Low cannot get a fair trial in Malaysia, where the regime has proven numerous times that it has no interest in the rule of law,” said the statement.

The other four jointly charged with Low are Tang Keng Chee, Loo Ai Swan, Geh Choh Heng, and Tan Kim Loong.

In June, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission released photographs of Tang, Loo, Geh, and Tan to facilitate its 1MDB investigations.

All four have been on MACC’s wanted list for some time. – December 4, 2018.

  • I got an idea. Since Jho Low is an international fugitive, why dont the auhoriites summon this Australian PR firm, and instruct them to provide details of contact by Jho Low etc? Further, to also stop dealing with him, since he is most likely remunerating them by using funds from 1MDB.
