MCA Youth says the party should leave the Barisan Nasional coalition and look for potential partners to start on a clean slate.

As a summary of the MCA Youth delegates conference, Youth chief Nicole Wong said BN should be dissolved and MCA should look for new partners to work with.

However, she said there was no need to rush into any cooperation with other parties after BN is dissolved.

“MCA Youth’s position is that it’s best that we dissolve BN and look for better partners… but there’s no need rush, because we will not know what tomorrow may bring.

“There are plenty of opportunities, and there’s no need for everyone to voice out now,” Wong said.

However, Wong did not give a clear answer to whether the party should cooperate with PAS or Umno, given the party’s stand that it will not cooperate with extremist parties.

“Some parties are allied based on certain issues, but not cooperating in the long-term… is this method of cooperation suitable for Malaysia?” she said.

MCA Youth’s delegates conference was held behind closed doors this time, and Wong later said many delegates had expressed uncertainty about the party’s future and are hoping that the party’s leadership can show the way.

On matters of education and the Unified Examination Certificate , Wong said MCA had been stripped of any position to fight for the recognition of the standardised test for Chinese independent high school students.

“Now that we have been rejected, there are more elected representatives that can push for the agendas, we shall let them to do that.

“I wish whoever is in charge of the issues in Pakatan Harapan good luck and I hope it will be done properly so that the people will benefit in the end,” she said.

MCA lost all it’s parliamentary seats save the Ayer Hitam seat in the 14th general election.

The party chose to remain in the defeated BN pact after the shock election, but many within the party have been calling for the Chinese party to break off and forge different partnerships with other parties. – December 1, 2018.
