Najib accuses Pakatan of copying BN’s ‘cash is king’ to help poor

FORMER prime minister Najib Razak has slammed Putrajaya for adopting Barisan Nasional’s policies of handing out cash aid to lower-income groups, after Pakatan Harapan leaders consistently condemned the same policies during the previous administration.

In a Facebook post today, Najib said the new government was now forced to backtrack on its earlier stance by handing out cost of living allocations to lower-income groups.

“The move to return the monsoon season assistance and early schooling aid, which were introduced by the BN government, should be considered ‘Cash is King’ or not?

“In 100 meters, make a U-turn.” This is Waze speaking, not me,” he said.

“But it’s all right. What’s important is that the poor get help.”

Last week, Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said households earning less than RM3,000 a month will receive RM100 aid for every schooling child from year one to form five under a special allocation of RM328 million to help parents cope with the cost of living.

Earlier, Putrajaya announced a special allocation of RM77 million to help Felda settlers meet their outstanding payments for the current year and RM165 million to help some 270,000 rubber tappers deal with their loss of income in the monsoon season. Each tapper will receive RM600.

Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said that Najib’s 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) handouts had “spoilt” the rakyat and replaced it with a more targeted cost of living aid, which will eventually be phased out. – December 23, 2018.

  • This is UMNO trait. The ruling leader has the tendency to provide handouts instead of incentives to encourage people to be more productive. So people become lazy and wait for handouts, spoiling the people.

  • Please dont gloat. You started them on handouts and now they are addicted to it. In China if you dont work you starve..thats why the chinese there are tough and resilient and think out of the box to survive. Malaysians will just make some noise and the government will give money..they will never be smart and tough enough to stand on their own two feet.
