LAW firm Skrine has denied its lawyers have paid thugs to storm the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman temple in Subang Jaya on Monday morning.

The firm said in a statement today that while it is acting for One City Development Bhd, it had not hired the men as alleged and none of its lawyers have been arrested.

“We categorically state that we are not the lawyers referred to by the home minister. None of our lawyers have been arrested by the police,” the firm was quoted by Malaysiakini as saying.

“We have no knowledge whatsoever of the alleged hiring of thugs and condemn in the strongest terms any such action.”

Skrine added that its work will continue to be conducted in accordance to the law.

Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin had said that lawyers who allegedly paid thugs RM150,000 in total to clear out the temple are among the 30 now arrested by police in connection to the riots.

Meanwhile, another law firm, Messrs Thomas Philip said One City was its client in 2014 but the company had since hired another firm at the end of 2015.

“Messrs Thomas Philip were solicitors on record for One City in relation to Shah Alam High Court suit no 21-353-1996 which was resolved by way of consent order dated March 11, 2014.

“On December 30, 2015, a new firm of solicitors was instructed by One City to take over the conduct and all matters arising from the consent order,” the firm said in a statement. – November 28, 2018.

  • More twists and turns. If the police cannot get to the bottom of this for 'sebab-sebab tertentu', perhaps the press must try to do the job. Otherwise, Malaysians will never know the truth and this incident will be used for political purposes, like so many other 'mysterious' incidents have been.
