A VIDEO making the rounds showing a rat “dining” at the food counter at Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR) is still unverified, said HTAR director Dr Ding Lay Ming.

She said the source of the video is unknown but the hospital has ordered the outsourced canteen operators to cease business until the premises is cleaned up.

“I really do not know where that (video) came from but we are making them (the canteen operators) clean up the canteen,” she told The Malaysian Insight.

A shutdown notice was issued by the Selangor Health Department to the canteen at 2pm today.

Dr Ding confirmed that the canteen is currently closed but for cleaning purposes and not related to the presence of a rat.

“We routinely spring clean the canteen. This video, I take it as an opportunity to ensure that the operators clean it properly,” she added.

The notice stated that the canteen is closed until September 1 because of hygiene issues.

The 32-second clip showed a rat dining on a piece of cabbage at the food counter, allegedly taken at the hospital’s canteen.

However, the video does not have a timestamp of when it was taken or any indicator of its location. – August 18, 2017.
