POLICE are still investigating three reports lodged against Clare Rewcastle-Brown during the previous Barisan Nasional administration, the Sarawak Report editor said.
The reports were allegedly for spreading fake news in relation to the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal, she told reporters after being questioned about another case at the federal police headquarters in Kuala Lumpur today.
“I was shocked as I thought the matter was closed,” she said.
“I came to Bukit Aman voluntarily after being informed that many of the people I met here in Malaysia have been questioned by the police.
“I contacted the police and agreed to meet them. However, I was surprised to know that there are three more cases against me.”
These pertain to reports lodged in 2015, 2016, 2018.
“There are three separate cases for spreading fake news that have not been closed. They want me to come back and have three separate statements recorded,” Rewcastle-Brown said.
She was wanted by Malaysian authorities for her reports on the 1MDB scandal.
There was an order to arrest her if she stepped foot in Malaysia, making her an enemy of the state prior to Pakatan Harapan taking control of the federal government following the May 9 general election.
Since the election, the Sarawak-born British journalist has been in and out of the country.
She had also launched her book on the 1MDB scandal at a hotel in Petaling Jaya, Selangor in September. – November 23, 2018.
