PERAK police will question Tapah Umno members in connection with an alleged threat to the political secretary to Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department P. Waytha Moorthy.
Tapah District Police chief Wan Azharuddin Wan Ismail said his men will call up the Umno members for their statements.
“We received the report lodged by the political secretary, and we have opened a case under Section 341 of the Penal Code.
“So far we have yet to arrest anyone but we will call them up to record their statement,” Wan Azharuddin told The Malaysian Insight.
P. Muniandy reported receiving a threat, at the Jalan Travers police station last night.
He said he was stopped while leaving SK Datuk Kelana in Tapah on Monday by an Umno member who introduced himself as Syed Afrizal.
“I was about to leave the school when the Umno man stopped my car. I was going to another programme but he did not allow my car to exit the school.
“He was shouting and intimidating me to get out of the car and not to be afraid. He then said he wanted to pass a memorandum to Waytha Moorthy,” he said.
Muniandy said as soon as he got out of the car, the man warned him to not speak about Malay rights and Islam.
Syed Afrizal warned him that this could lead to a repeat of the May 13 racial riots, he said.
“He yelled and asked me not to speak about Islam and Malay rights. He then issued a warning, saying that there is no need to have another May 13 incident.”
Waytha Moorthy is the minister leading the plan for Malaysia to ratify the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.
Umno and PAS are opposed to the treaty, which ratification they said would encroach on the rights of the Malays, whose special position was enshrined in the federal constituion. – November 21, 2018.
