GRAFT-busters today raided Isa Samad’s new office at the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) in its ongoing investigations into allegations of graft and abuse of power against the former Felda chairman.

The raid by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) this morning comes after the anti-graft body raided Isa’s two homes in Petaling Jaya and Nilai yesterday.

MACC chief commissioner Dzulkifli Ahmad confirmed the “visit” to the SPAD office this morning.

“This a normal process for an ongoing investigation,” The MACC chief said. – August 17, 2017.

MACC raided Isa’s home in Selangor on August 15 after his arrest, saying it was standard procedure to search the suspect’s house following an arrest.

The graft-busters also raided Isa’s home in Nilai, Seremban yesterday.

When asked if there would be a freeze on Isa’s assets, Dzulkifli said MACC is still investigating and is trying their best to complete the probe.

Isa was detained over Felda Investment Corporation’s (FIC) hotel purchases in London and Kuching and was remanded for five days at the Putrajaya magistrate’s court.

Isa was wearing an MACC lock-up uniform when he attended court yesterday, which was unlawful according to lawyer and Padang Serai MP N. Surendran.

Surendran said it was a breach of Article 5 of the Federal Constitution as an arrested person is allowed to wear his own clothes and could lawfully decline to wear lock-up uniform.

He also said this created the perception that the suspect was already guilty of the crime he or she was accused of even though it has not been proven in court.

In response, Dzulkifli said the matter can challenged in court if it was unconstitutional.

“If it is unconstitutional (for an arrested person to wear lock-up uniforms), bring it (the matter) to court,” Dzulkifli told a press conference after the signing ceremony of Corruption-Free Pledge with International Islamic University (IIUM) vendors. – August 17, 2017.
