BARISAN Nasional will be fielding Mohamad Hasan again to wrest the Rantau state seat after the Seremban Election court declared it vacant today.
Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the former Negri Sembilan menteri besar will contest the seat, which has been his stronghold since 2004.
The Umno president added the verdict today had already been expected and he stressed the Rantau seat should be defended at all costs.
“The court verdict on the Rantau by-election was expected.
“Even though there are obstacles and challenges, the Rantau seat must be defended,” said Zahid, who is Bagan Datoh MP.
Earlier today, the Seremban Election Court ordered a by-election for Rantau after allowing PKR candidate Dr Streram Sinnasamy’s application that the Election Commission was wrong to prevent him from filing his nomination papers in the 14th general election.
After proceedings today, Mohamad told reporters that he will consult with his lawyers on the next course of action.
The Umno deputy president can file an appeal at the Federal Court. – November 16, 2018.
