FORMER Federal Territories minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor was today charged with two counts of corruption for accepting RM3 million to help developers with their projects, mainly building affordable homes, in Kuala Lumpur.
He claimed trial to both the charges and was allowed a bail of RM1 million with two sureties.
Sessions judge Azman Adnan also ordered the registrar to stay open until the payment was settled today.
The Putrajaya MP was charged with receiving RM1 million on December 27, 2013, from Tan Eng Boon, representing Pekan Nenas Industries Sdn Bhd on behalf of Nucleus Properties Sdn Bhd (now known as Paragon City Development Sdn Bhd), which had an official deal with his ministry in relation to increasing the density plot of a land in Jalan Semarak for development.
He was also charged with receiving RM2 million through an Aset Kayamas Sdn Bhd cheque from Chai Kin Kong on June 14, 2016, knowing that Aset Kayamas and five other companies had official business with his ministry to purchase City Hall land to construct 14 affordable home projects in Kuala Lumpur.
He was charged under Section 165 of Penal Code and faces a jail term of up to two years and/or fine for each charge.
Deputy public prosecutor Umar Saifuddin led the prosecution while Tengku Adnan was represented by Tan Hock Chuan and S.S. Ruban.
The case will be mentioned on December 12. – November 15, 2018.
