PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar appears to be the only one from Rafizi Ramli’s camp doing well in the party elections, which is entering its last phase with polling in Sarawak this weekend.

In other top posts, leaders supporting incumbent deputy president Azmin Ali are leading their rivals, while Azmin himself is ahead of Rafizi by more than 3,000 votes, with voting more or less completed in 13 states.

Apart from Sarawak’s vote this weekend, there will also be revoting in at least nine other branches where the process was marred by problems.

Nurul Izzah, the Permatang Pauh MP, is first in the vice-presidents’ race, with more than 70,000 votes.

Azmin’s teammates, however, outnumber Nurul Izzah as three out of the four vice-president’s posts available are dominated by Zuraida Kamaruddin, Dr Xavier Jayakumar and Chua Siang Chang.

Members of Team Azmin in the central leadership council (MPP) race have also bagged 15 out of the 20 seats available.

Of these, Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari has the highest number of votes with more than 50,000, followed by Deputy Dewan Rakyat Speaker Rashid Hasnon. Others include Rahmah Majid and Deputy Rural Development Minister R. Sivarasa.

The five MPP candidates with the highest votes from Rafizi’s camp are Kapar MP Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid, followed by Julau MP Larry Sng, Setiawangsa MP Nik Nazri Nik Ahmad, and Nurin Rina and Zaliha Mustafa.

Azmin’s teammates are also leading in the Youth and Women’s wing contests.

Dr Afif Bahardin is ahead of Akmal Nasir with a less than 1,000-vote difference for the Youth chief post, while Afif’s running mate for deputy, Hilman Idham, is more than 8,000 votes ahead of his rival.

In the Women’s wing, Haniza Talha and Dr Daroyah Ali are each ahead of their rivals with a 4,000-vote majority.

Sarawak, the state with the second largest number of members after Selangor, has 56,901 voters from 29 branches who will cast e-ballots this Saturday and Sunday.

On Sunday, six branches in Malacca and three others — Jelebu in Negri Sembilan, Kuala Selangor in Selangor, and Labuan Federal Territory — will continue the polling process for those who did not manage to vote.

PKR’s electronic voting system has been beset with problems and complaints, ranging for poor internet connection resulting in “lost” votes, and claims of sabotage.

Pensiangan, Tawau and Keningau — three branches in Sabah that faced problems with voting last weekend — will also hold polls again this weekend.

The final results will be confirmed at the PKR annual congress from November 16 to 18 in Shah Alam. – November 7, 2018.

  • Hope Rafizi can show some sportsmanship and fair play should he lose the race for deputy president instead of invoking more provocations.

  • The number only shows that PKR is truly divided regardless of who wins. Whoever wins must not attempt to purge the rival camp as the latter has almost as many supporters who voted for them.
