MUSA Aman is expected to face multiple charges of corruption involving “huge and hefty sums” at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions court today, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission said.

The former Sabah chief minister, who is also Sg Sibuga assemblyman, is expected to be charged over several cases involving timber concessions in the state.

A source said Musa was arrested after he turned up at the MACC headquarters this morning.

He will be taken to the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court where he is expected to be charged with 23 counts of graft involving the sum of US$63 million (RM250 million) deposited into his Singapore and Hong Kong bank accounts.

He will also be at the Kota Kinabalu High Court later this week where he is laying claim to the chief minister’s post, following the appointment of Mohd Shafie Apdal.

Musa was appointed chief minister on May 10 while Shafie was appointed on May 12, resulting in what Sabahans term a “constitutional crisis”.

After the May 9 elections, Sabah was stuck with a hung assembly with BN and Warisan tied at 29 seats each, making Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku the kingmaker with two state seats.

On May 10, Solidariti led by Jeffrey Kitingan joined Barisan Nasional but barely 48 hours later, Shafie was appointed CM after crossovers of five assemblymen from United Pasok Momogun KadazanDusunMurut Organisation and several BN defectors.

This gave Warisan, led by Shafie, the majority and later, the formation of the Warisan-PH-Upko government on May 12.

Shafie in one of his earlier initiatives launched an internal inquiry, along with MACC, into the timber deals initiated by the previous Sabah BN government led by Musa. – November 5, 2018.
