THE PKR Central Election Committee (JPP) will take no immediate action over fracas during voting in Keningau on the first day of the Sabah leg of the party polls.

JPP chairman Rashid Din today downplayed yesterday’s uproar.

“At this point there will be no immediate action, as the fracas was not that serious. But we will continue to ensure the process will be done smoothly.

“At this point, nothing untoward has happened,” he told The Malaysian Insight in the second day of the PKR polls in Sabah.

Party president Anwar Ibrahim vowed to boot out any troublemakers from the party during his visit to Sabah last month.

Party members from thirteen of the 25 Sabah divisions will vote for party leaders today.

Yesterday, voting was held in Sandakan, Libaran, Kalabakan, Sepanggar, Tawau, Beaufort, Batu Sapi, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran, Sipitang, Kota Marudu and Keningau.

The results of the polls yesterday have been announced, except for Keningau. JPP said  technicians will need time to extract the data from the e-voting tablets.

Today Kudat, Kota Belud, Putatan, Penampang, Kimanis, Ranau, Beluran, Tenom, Pensiangan, Kinabatangan, Silam, Semporna and Papar will vote before JPP wraps up the polls in Sabah and heads to Sarawak.

Deputy president candidate Rafizi Ramli is expected to win in Sabah, although rival incumbent Mohamed Azmin Ali remains in the lead overall.

During the Keningau polls, Rafizi alleged a man had tried to attack him when the crowd got riled up for not being able to vote when it was almost closing time around 4pm.

Rafizi had to be escorted out of the small community centre used as a voting station.

He has accused JPP of choosing a small, wooden community centre where there was no telephone line or stable internet connection for the polls.

Keningau acting police chief Assistant Supurintendent Lee Nyuk Kim said the police will complete its investigation soon.

“There have been no arrests yet,” said Lee, adding that several men have been called in for questioning after the incident yesterday. – November 4, 2018.
