A TECHNICAL glitch is holding back the results of the Keningau PKR elections, which were disrupted by ruckus yesterday, and the details would only be known later this afternoon.

A central election committee spokesman said the Keningau polls involve some offline voting which will require time for the technician to recall the data before the final results could be uploaded unto the database.

“Results counting is still ongoing… some voters had to do offline voting. The data stored in the tablet could only be recalled after it is sent to the JPP centre in Keningau town, where internet is available,” he told The Malaysian Insight.

However, there are also talks that the party may conduct fresh elections in the division following a scuffle at a community centre yesterday.

Discussions are ongoing over the matter.

The party elections are conducted online which requires good internet access and communication lines, and while internet is accessible in most parts of Sabah, connection has been poor in some rural areas, like Keningau.

Unofficial results for all divisions, except Keningau, were released around 7pm yesterday in the first day of polling in the state.

Early results show that both deputy presidential candidates Mohamed Azmin Ali and Mohd Rafizi Ramli with six wins each, but with the incumbent Azmin holding a slender lead.

Azmin won in Sandakan, Libaran, Kalabakan, Sepanggar, Tawau and Beaufort divisions while Rafizi captured Batu Sapi, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran, Sipitang and Kota Marudu.

Counting for the Keningau polls are ongoing but the division is expected to go Rafizi’s way.

Sabah, the state with the second largest number of PKR members with more than 143,000 members, saw a low voter turnout of just below 40% yesterday.

Voting continues today in Kudat, Kota Belud, Putatan, Penampang, Kimanis, Ranau, Beluran, Tenom, Pensiangan, Kinabatangan, Silam, Semporna and Papar. – November 4, 2018.
