SABAH Education director Maimunah Suhaibul today declined to comment on the case of a teacher in Kota Belud who reportedly skipped class for seven months.
A former student had recently sued the teacher over his absence from the English class he was assigned to teach in February to November 2015. Except for about a week in October, he was missing from class during the seven months, said the student.
Maimunah said an investigation was underway into the student’s claim.
“This has become a court case, so I cannot comment further but rest assured we are doing what is necessary,” she said.
Sabah Education and Innovation Minister Dr Yusof Yacob said he took a personal interest in the case which was under the purview of the state Education Department and the federal Education Ministry
“I am monitoring this case closely.”
“This bad habit of teachers or other government officers who skip work is not new” and there were “clear guidelines” on how the government may take action, he said. – November 1, 2018.
