PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali believes he would have a much bigger lead in the ongoing party polls if a problematic e-voting system had not caused some votes to vanish.

“Look at what happened in Selangor where 1,000 votes were missing in Ampang and 800 votes were missing in my division.

“If these votes were counted my margin would be much bigger,” said the economic affairs minister who is defending his post as the party No. 2.

Votes were lost at the PKR elections over the weekend in Kuala Selangor due to poor internet connection.

In Malacca and Negri Sembilan, similar problems caused some 2,000 votes to be lost, requiring a re-poll.

The elections that are occurring in stages employ an online voting system which has been riddled with technical problems including claims of sabotage.

On the suggestion there was corruption in the PKR elections, Azmin said the elections committee (JPP) should investigate the complaints.

“It must act freely to run the elections fairly. JPP cannot be influenced or pressured by political figures.

“Those with evidence should come out and present it to the JPP,” Azmin told reporters on the sidelines of the 2018 Anti-Corruption Summit today.

The deputy president is defending his post from contender vice-president Rafizi Ramli.

The fight has been bitter, with team Rafizi accusing Azmin of being part of a conspiracy to prevent PKR president-elect Anwar Ibrahim from becoming prime minister.

“I believe in the wisdom of my party members. They have seen my leadership and they will continue (to choose) my leadership to strengthen the party,” said Azmin, on his chances of keeping the post. – October 30, 2018.
