TWO thousand PKR members in Malacca and Negri Sembilan will have to vote again on November 11 after their e-votes in party elections went “missing”.

The PKR elections committee (JPP) said the fiasco mainly affected six branches in Malacca, and 22 votes in the Jelebu branch in Negri Sembilan.

JPP deputy director Dr Adzman Hedra told The Malaysian Insight a re-poll was only for members whose votes were not registered in the party elections last week.

It was possible to identify whose votes were missing because the e-voting system could trace the voter via their name and identity card number, he said.

“We will inform the branches concerned (of the members who need to vote again),” he said

The results in the two states would only be tallied and announced after the re-poll, he added.

“The votes that were (registered) have been counted. With the re-poll, the number of votes must increase, they cannot be less.”.

Voting in Malacca on Oct 20 was disrupted due to technical problems with the party’s online voting system.

Independent IT experts said some 2,000 votes were lost when voting data failed to transfer to a cloud storage system because of a weak Internet connection.

PKR elections which began in late September have been riddled with problems involving its e-voting system, claims of sabotage, allegations of money politics and dubious memberships.

The party has more than 800,000 members who are eligible to vote. – October 30, 2018.
