UMNO president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is not stepping aside and has told those calling for him to go on leave to focus instead on the real enemies working to destroy the party.

The former deputy prime minister thanked Umno Youth for their suggestion that he takes a break pending the outcome of his criminal charges, and advised them to watch out instead for the foes of Umno.

“Thank you for the views, I celebrate the difference in opinion. But, let us move together to fight the enemy that wants to destroy Umno,” Zahid posted on Twitter today.

The Bagan Datoh lawmaker also retweeted a post by Umno Supreme Council member Ahmad Maslan, who wanted Zahid to remain.

Ahmad said Zahid could stay because Umno was not in government and therefore could not  influence the judiciary in the matter of Zahid’s court cases.

Moreover, Ahmad said the legal process could be long and drawn out as the charges against Zahid were politically motivated.

“The charges are political in nature. He (Zahid) has not been found guilty.

“The court process will take some time, it’s not (going to be a matter of days).

“We should stick together during such difficult times,” he said.

Umno Youth Chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki’s yesterday urged Zahid to step away from his presidential duties until the 45 criminal charges levelled against him are resolved.

Asyraf said the proposal was unanimously endorsed by the Youth exco members.

However, some Youth division leaders have voiced their objection to the suggestion, saying Zahid should not have to go on leave as he was innocent until proven guilty.

Asyraf has also been criticised by strident Zahid defender, Supreme Council member Lokman Noor Adam, for failing to stand up for the president.

Zahid was last week charged with 45 counts of criminal breach of trust, abuse of power and money laundering involving RM114 million.

The offences relate to misappropriation of funds from a charity of which he is a trustee, and to receiving gratification in his former position as home minister. – October 26, 2018.

  • Why would he want to go on leave when there are people who are still stooping so low to kiss his hand. If they stoop any lower they will be kissing his feet.

  • The hand kissing in Malaysia which is actually a culture which are accorded to only elders like our parents and elders which symbolise respect , love and kinship. When hand kissing is being done at a free will to others it only resembles an act of subserviency or more to a slave. That is why Umno members has never able to grasp the progress in thoughts as a free man without burden . The feudalistic approach by the Umno leaders as what a blogger has said it bonsified the thoughts and further enhanced by the 3Rs doctrination do not give much for many to be independent in their actions.
