THE PKR elections steering committee (JPP) has not found enough evidence of money politics being employed in the party elections.

Election director Rashid Din said even though the committee had received three complaints, there was not enough evidence to take action.

Rashid said all the committee had so far were pictures, videos and a statutory declaration.

“We will only take action if there is clear evidence. So far there only is pictorial evidence. We have received two, three complaints on money politics but there is no firm evidence,” he told The Malaysian Insight when contacted.

“They gave us pictures, a statutory declaration that people gave them money. How can we accept (these as evidence)?

“The video (shows) only the elections atmosphere and not of people giving money,” he said.

He declined to go into the specifics of the complaints.

PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail recently said the party would investigate the claims of vice-president Rafizi Ramli that party members were offered RM100 each to vote for certain candidates.

In response, PKR political bureau member Latheefa Koya had revealed that campaigners for the deputy-president hopeful had given voters food coupons on October.

Rashid said the committee would not take action against Rafizi as food coupons were not money.

“Money politics is when a candidate gives money (to the voters). Food coupons are not a problem,” he said.

Rashid warned candidates not to flout election rules, saying that there would be dire consequences for the wrongdoers if they were caught.

“Candidates found guilty can be dropped from being nominated or have their victory rescinded. We also will refer them to the disciplinary bureau,” he said. – October 25, 2018.

  • PKRs policy on Election ethics seem to differ from the Election Commissions ethics..
    There is no consistency..
EC says candidates are not allowed to give people free food... PKR election rules says its OK to do so.
