AHMAD Zahid Hamidi has been summoned to appear at the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission tomorrow, said Umno supreme council member Lokman Noor Adam.
The Umno president is expected to be charged on Friday, according to Lokman.
“He was served a notice to be present at the MACC. He has been told he has to be at the MACC at 3pm tomorrow,” he said in a statement.
The former deputy prime minister was grilled by the MACC last week for three consecutive days, for several hours each day.
The former home minister is being investigated for alleged graft linked to a family-run charitable foundation, Yayasan Akal Budi, which he chairs.
It was reported that RM800,000 had been allegedly misappropriated from the foundation to pay off Zahid and his wife’s credit card bills.
His daughter Nurulhidayah Ahmad Zahid and brother Mohamad Nasaee Ahmad Tarmizi have also been called up to assist in the investigations.
Today, Lokman called on Umno members to gather tomorrow at the MACC headquarters in solidarity with the party president and on Friday at the sessions court in Jalan Duta at 8am.
“Don’t leave our president alone. Come and defend Umno’s dignity which the current government is trying to tarnish,” he said.
Lokman said members had nothing to fear as a peaceful gathering is not an offence. – October 17, 2018.
