THE car park attendant who was assaulted by a “Datuk” in a video that went viral disclosed that it was a mere misunderstanding due to a faulty parking ticket and wanted to move on.
The car park attendant, who wished to be known as Molly, told The Malaysian Insight that the matter has been resolved, saying that it all blew up after the video was posted online.
In the video of the alleged assault, the “Datuk” was caught on camera berating and beating the car park attendant at a hotel in the capital. The incident is believed to have happened on September 18.
However, Brickfields district police chief Ruslan Khalid said the suspect’s statement was taken in Brickfields and the investigation would be referred to the deputy public prosecutor (DPP).
“It is up to him if he wants to apologise or to hug the man. We will still investigate and submit the papers to the DPP. The DPP will decide whether to charge or not.
“The police will still probe the matter,” Ruslan told The Malaysian Insight
Ruslan said, based on the parking attendant’s report, the man became aggressive when the attendant refused to raise the exit bar at the hotel after the man was found not to have paid for a RM3 parking ticket.
He said the parking attendant lodged a police report on September 19.
Molly then explained that the ticket issued to the “Datuk” was faulty before clarifying that he was a new staff at the hotel.
“Usually for VVIP, they will be given free tickets but I do not know why on that day he had to pay for it. It was not my fault as I was just a car park attendant.
“I tried to explain to him but before I could do so, he started hitting me. I was also new there. Only five months so I do not know who the regulars there are,” Molly said.
After the first viral video, a second video of the two settling the dispute went viral.
Molly has been accused of accepting money from the man who is a director at a telecommunications company.
“I did not receive a single sen. The video in the restaurant, there was not even water served to me.
“I was there just to settle the matter. Not because I was paid,” he affirmed.
Molly said that the matter has since been resolved and he had no idea who posted the first video of the assault on social media.
“I do not know. I am just a car park attendant. Maybe someone in the hotel but I do not know who.
“For me, I have settled the issue and the ‘Datuk’ has apologised. Therefore it is all good,” he said. – October 15, 2018.
