NURUL Izzah Anwar has urged the voters of Port Dickson to reject independent candidate Mohd Saiful Bukhari for running a dirty campaign by continuously bringing up the sodomy charges against her father Anwar Ibrahim, which led to his jailing.

The Permatang Pauh MP, who is also Anwar’s oldest child, said Saiful must not be allowed to carry on with the lies and slander and pledged to fight him in order to defend her family’s honour.

“I will definitely discuss this (with her family)… we have to keep (fighting) because Saiful has not stopped slandering.

“To me, we have to fight it, it’s a question of honour. When we are innocent, we have to rise up and fight, and stand up for justice. To me, this goes beyond politics,” she said.

Saiful accused Anwar of sodomising him in 2008 and on March 7, 2014, Anwar was sentenced to five years’ jail by the Court of Appeal after the court found him guilty.

The PKR president-elect received a royal pardon and was released in May after Pakatan Harapan took over the government following the 14th general election.

Nurul said Saiful’s actions in bringing up the sodomy case was cruel and that her family had suffered enough because of it.

“These forms of evil should not be continued. I am very saddened and ask all voters to reject the culture of lies,” she told The Malaysian Insight in Kuala Lumpur today.

Saiful is competing against Anwar and five other candidates in the Port Dickson by-election on October 13.

Yesterday, Saiful told a few dozen residents at a ceramah that it was true that Anwar had sodomised him.

 “It really happened. If it didn’t, I wouldn’t be standing here,” he said.

Apart from Saiful, Anwar will face former Negri Sembilan menteri besar Isa Samad, three other independent candidates and Nazari Mokhtar (PAS). – October 8, 2018.
