UMNO president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi does not want his supporters to hold a rally in front of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission headquarters on Wednesday.
The former deputy prime minister is due to give his statement to MACC at 10am on that day.
“It is my personal request that I don’t want a rally to be held in front of the MACC headquarters on Wednesday morning.
“I will give my statement. I will give full cooperation to the MACC,” he tweeted this afternoon.
Earlier today, Umno Supreme Council member Lokman Noor Adam urged party members to gather at the MACC headquarters on Wednesday as a show of support for Zahid.
It is unclear why Zahid has been called up or whether this has anything to do with ongoing investigations into the 1Malaysia Development scandal.
It was reported earlier that the authorities are questioning Umno leaders and division heads who allegedly received money from the scandal-ridden state investment fund.
This is also not the first time Zahid has been summoned by the anti-graft agency.
In July, he was questioned over two days over funds misappropriated in a foundation run by his family.
He allegedly used RM800,000 from Akal Budi Foundation to pay off credit card bills racked up by him and his wife. – October 8, 2018.
