THE issue is not of Anwar Ibrahim winning in Port Dickson, but of him winning big, real big.

That was the message from DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang who turned up in Port Dickson today to campaign for PKR’s incoming president.

“Whether Anwar will win is not a problem. The problem is whether he will win big.

“If we want a new Port Dickson, a new Malaysia, then we must come out and vote for him on polling day,” he said during his series of kopitiam talk with Anwar in the parliamentary constituency.

The Gelang Patah MP started the day in Lukut where he urged locals to vote for Anwar on October 13.

Lim said that while he did not think that Anwar would have any problem winning, he was concerned over the margin of the win.

The DAP leader added that Port Dickson should be lucky to have a lawmaker who will be the future prime minister as he will surely bring progress to the coastal town.

“If you want a new port, you need an MP who is also the PM to have this chance.

“Let’s show all Malaysians and the world of how united we are on the day of the by-election,” he said.

DAP’s Bukit Kepayang assemblyman Nicole Tan, meanwhile, said people must vote for Anwar to continue the progress that the Pakatan Harapan government has brought since the May general election.

She also called on women voters to back Anwar.

“The Negri Sembilan government treats the women very well, so how can you repay the government? Come out and vote for Anwar on polling day,” Tan said.

She also urged those who are working outside Port Dickson to return home to vote to ensure Anwar wins with a big majority.

The Port Dickson seat fell vacant after Danyal Balagopal Abdullah, of PKR, quit as MP to make way for Anwar, who is attempting a Parliament comeback.

This is in line with PH’s plan to have him take over from Dr Mahathir Mohamad as prime minister.

In the 14th general election, Danyal got 36,225 votes, defeating Barisan Nasional’s Mogan Velayatham and Mahfuz Roslan of PAS.

Anwar is in a seven-way battle for the seat. He is up against five independent candidates – his former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, former Negri Sembilan menteri besar Isa Samad, Lau Seck Yan, Stevie Chan and Kan Chee Yuen – and air force veteran Mohd Nazari Mokhtar of PAS. – October 5, 2018.
