CONTROVERSIAL blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin has apologised for his racist slur against federal commercial crime chief Amar Singh Ishar Singh, in which he commented on the latter’s turban.

“Police reports have been made against me. I have also received numerous threats. But that is not why I am apologising for my quip that Amar Singh’s turban may be too tight,” he said on his portal, Malaysia Today.

“I was told a Sikh’s turban is a very sacred item, and they do not take too kindly to anyone making fun of it. For that, I would like to sincerely apologise.”

Raja Petra made the offensive remark in a spat between him and the Commercial Crime Investigation Department director, following the blogger’s claim that police had stolen millions out of the total seized in raids on premises linked to former prime minister Najib Razak.

The raids were conducted as part of the probe into troubled state investor 1Malaysia Development Bhd, which was Najib’s brainchild.

Raja Petra said although he never meant to insult Amar Singh, what matters is the manner in which the remark was received.

“I can argue that I did not consider my quip to be an insult to the Sikh faith, or that it was not my intention. But it is not what I intended that matters, but how what I had said was received.

“I also apologise to Amar Singh because as much as I may disagree with him, that disagreement should not be reduced to the level of insulting his religion.”

He also apologised to Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo, who described the slur as an attack on the country’s multiracial and multireligious society.

He said Gobind was among the Sikhs who had acted as his lawyers in various trials, and when he was detained under the Internal Security Act in 2008.

The others were Amarjit Sidhu, Manjeet Singh Dhillon and the late Karpal Singh.

“They all did this without me asking (they volunteered their services), and without asking for a single sen in payment. I will be eternally grateful to Gobind, Amarjit, Manjeet and the late Karpal. So, would I want to repay them by insulting their Sikh faith?

“‘Kenang budi’ is supposed to be a Malay trait and virtue. To insult the faith of those who did so much for you and asked for nothing in return is not ‘kenang budi’. It is the opposite of ‘kenang budi’.” – October 1, 2018.

  • I doubt he is sincere with his apology. When all are forgotten he will be back to his mischievous self and spin as much as he could as a mercenary. His only fear is when he is really being threatened and challenged. All his nonsensical bluff are just like jaguh kampong. RPK needs to behave and grow up.

  • Insincere apology. With his back against the wall due to the intense pressure from the Sikhs, he is now thinking of himself when he apologise. This soldier of fortune /mercenary has no conscience. He is a has been whom nobody want or believe in anymore. Go to hell Petra. You don't deserve the title Raja. Bring disgrace to the title.

  • He lives in The U. K. where there are more than 2 million Indians, 300,000 of whom are Sikhs. He knows his days of peaceful journalistic prostitution are numbered if he crosses swords with them. Better eat humble pie and live to fight another day seems to be what he has been advised.

  • @RajaPetra tweeted at 6:57 PM - 29 Sep 2018 "My audience is Malays-Muslims. I really dont care what the others think. They will never vote PAS anyway." Whoever is behind RPK, he did not care until some Sikhs in yellow showed up in his coffee shop. His 180 degrees turn is as remarkable as it was unexpected when he realised Sikhs will stand up for their brothers and their faith. RPK, please enjoy the taste of your own medicine.
