POLICE applied to exhume the remains of Cradle Fund chief executive officer Nazri Hassan after the deceased’s brother asked that a second post-mortem be conducted, police said today.

Selangor Criminal Investigation Department chief Fadzil Ahmat said Nazrin’s brother had lodged a police report stating he was unhappy with the results of the first autopsy carried out at Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

“He wanted a second post-mortem. Following the report, police consulted the state public prosecutor’s office and agreed to make an application to have the body exhumed.”

In the murder investigations so far, police have arrested Nazrin’s widow, her ex-husband, their two teenage sons, Nazrin’s sister-in-law and her husband.

All the suspects so far are from the widow’s side of the family.

Police today obtained permission from the Petaling Jaya magistrates’ court to exhume Nazrin’s remains. The exhumation will take place this Wednesday.

Last week, police arrested Nazrin’s sister-in-law and her husband.

Prior to that, police detained Nazrin’s stepsons, who practice archery in school.

It was reported that Nazrin had injuries to the neck, believed to have been caused by an arrow. Police had also found the alleged murder weapon in an archery bag in one of the suspects’ home.

Police had earlier arrested Nazrin’s widow and her ex-husband. All those arrested are currently out on bail.

His 43-year-old widow is a senior executive at the Malaysian Intellectual Property Corporation.

Nazrin was found dead after his bedroom at a double-storey terrace house in Mutiara Damansara caught fire on June 14, the day before Hari Raya.

His family had said then that his handphone had exploded, causing the fire. Cradle Fund also issued a statement saying that its CEO died from blast injuries attributed to an exploding handphone that was being charged next to the bed.

Last month, however, Selangor police classified the case as murder after investigators found traces of petrol in the room.

The motive of the murder has yet to be ascertained. – October 1, 2018.
