Umno Youth raises RM489,000 for Najib

UMNO Youth has raised RM489,196 as at 10am today for the free Najib fund.

Federal Territories Umno Youth chief Razlan Rafii said at the Kuala Lumpur High Court that the amount did not include funds raised by other party divisions, such as Wanita Umno.

He also condemned the recent freezing of Umno leaders’ accounts.

The party expects former prime minister Najib Razak’s legal fees to exceed RM2.4 million.

He said the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission had gone too far by freezing Najib’s grandson’s bank account.

“All this needs to stop. There are those (Umno members) who called, crying on the phone, dismayed over the government’s actions against Najib and his family.

“I implore the MACC and the authorities not to abuse their powers. They need to think about the impact of their actions, especially on those who are innocent of any crime.”

Razlan also urged the MACC not to delay unfreezing the accounts.

“When Barisan Nasional was in power, it was transparent. No one saw action such as this taken against them.”

Yesterday, Wanita Umno handed over RM261,286 and two bracelets to Najib.

“The moral support for Najib is high. People contributed because we sympathise him and the unfair actions taken against him. From the very beginning (after the election), it was as though he was under house arrest.

“We all know the police were not there to look after his safety. They just wanted to make sure he didn’t go anywhere.”

The MACC yesterday denied it had a hand in freezing a bank account set up to help Najib.

Its deputy chief commissioner, Azam Baki, said concerned parties should refer the matter to the bank for clarification, not the MACC, as it has nothing to do with the move.

It was reported that Pekan Wanita Umno chief Zalmah Abdul Rahman had said that the Bank Rakyat account set up to help pay the remainder of the bail had been suspended.

Najib’s daughter, Nooryana Najwa, recently took to social media to say that her bank accounts, as well as the account of her 10-month-old son, had been frozen.

Nooryana Najwa said the bank informed her that the accounts had been frozen after she had posted the first tranche of RM500,000 bail for her father.

She said her account was used to pay for school fees while her son’s account contained just RM100 from his first duit raya.

Her brother, Norashman’s accounts, have also been frozen.

The MACC also denied freezing Najib’s grandson’s bank account. – July 9, 2018.
