THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission had no hand in freezing a bank account set up to help former prime minister Najib Razak pay his bail, it said today.

Its deputy chief commissioner, Azam Baki, said concerned parties should refer the matter to the bank for clarification, not the MACC, as it has nothing to do with the move.

In fact, I should not be commenting on this since they (supporters) did not point the finger at us. But to make things clear, MACC did not freeze the account. Concerned parties should enquire with the bank,” he said, declining to comment further.

Yesterday, Malay Mail Online reported that Pekan Wanita Umno chief Zalmah Abdul Rahman had said that the Bank Rakyat account set up to help Najib pay his bail had been suspended.

“We only opened one account and that was with Bank Rakyat,” she reportedly said about the freeze discovered at 7am on Saturday.

According to the report, this is the only bank account set up for Najib’s bail that has been frozen.

The “official” CIMB bank account (8601952060) to contribute to Najib’s bail, under the name Kelab Belia Berkhidmat and initiated by Seputeh Umno deputy division chief Mohd Razlan Muhammad Rafii, is still accessible.

Razlan, who leads a solidarity group for Najib, opened the account for the #FreeNajib fund two days ago.

Former prime minister Najib was charged on Wedneday with three counts of criminal breach of trust and one count of abuse of power involving SRC International Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of his brainchild, 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).

He was released the same day after his children paid half of the RM1 million bail amount. The other half must be paid tomorrow.

The fund set up to pay the remainder of his bail has collected RM310,245 as at 9.30am today.

“A total of RM88,111 was cash that was handed to me while the remainder was banked into the account,” said Razlan.

The sum will be handed to Najib tomorrow at his Jalan Langgak Duta house at 10am. – July 8, 2018.
