Fewer flood victims in Johor, Pahang


JOHOR and Pahang recorded a slight drop in the number of flood evacuees with 8,366 people at 73 relief centres as at 6am compared with 8,566 last night.

The National Disaster Management Agency said Johor logged 7,324 flood victims.

Kota Tinggi had the highest number of flood victims, 4,707 people at 26 centres, followed by Kluang (1,601 people at 13 centres), Johor Baru (840 people at five centres), Segamat (73 people at three centres), Kulai (86 people at one centre) and Pontian (17 people at one centre).

IN PAHANG, the evacuee tally dropped to 1,042 people at 22 centres today compared with 1,222 people at 27 centres last night.

IN SARAWAK, a relief centre was opened to house 38 people whose homes were destroyed by a fire.

Several rivers were at danger level, including Sungai Skudai in Johor, Sungai Perak in Perak, Sungai Arau in Perlis and Sungai Kuantan in Pahang.

Some 60 roads have been closed due to floods, damaged or collapsed bridges and landslides, including Jalan Kota Tinggi-Kluang in Johor, Jalan Sungai Sam to Dabong in Kelantan, East-West Highway Kupang-Gerik-Jeli in Perak and Jalan Temerloh-Jerantut in Pahang. – Bernama, January 9, 2024.
