KEDAH Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor is pulling out all the stops to prevent Perikatan Nasional (PN) MPs from switching their allegiance to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim by making claims that the unity government will collapse in the near future, Kedah Pakatan Harapan chairman Mahfuz Omar said.
Mahfuz told Utusan Malaysia that opposition leaders are worried about losing their lawmakers to the ruling government in addition to their ongoing court cases.
He said Sanusi should behave like a mentari besar, not a village chief.
“(When he acts like that) Sanusi damages Kedah’s economy. Investors making an assessment may feel that the political situation in Malaysia is unstable.
“Currently the situation is quite stable with the prime minister having the support of two-thirds in the Dewan Rakyat. Therefore, PN leaders, especially Sanusi, need to be more intelligent in presenting himself as menteri besar, instead of behaving as if he is a village political leader,” he told the Malay-language daily.
Mahfuz was responding to Sanusi who yesterday claimed that the unity government will not last to the end of its term.
The PN election director said he knew when the government would fall but declined to reveal the exact date.
Mahfuz added that Sanusi’s behaviour is the same as the character played by veteran actor A.R. Tompel in the movie “Nasib Do Re Mi”.
“In the film, the shaman tries to convince a group of men to believe that he can help them escape a woman. That’s more or less the case with what Sanusi is doing now,” he said.
Yesterday Bukit Gantang MP Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal reiterated his claim that at least eight opposition lawmakers would declare their support for the Anwar-led government soon.
The Bersatu MP said they would do so when parliament reconvenes in late February.
“When parliament reconvenes in February, the activity (declaring support) will start. They will wait and monitor the progress throughout the next two months,” he said today.
Earlier, Syed Abu Hussin became the fifth opposition leader to switch allegiance after Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar) and Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan).
In December, Syed Abu Hussin claimed seven or eight MPs from PN would soon change camps in the Dewan Rakyat. – January 7, 2024.
