POLICE have opened investigation papers (IPs) on two PAS politicians – Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Noor and Jengka assemblyman Shahril Azman Abd Halim – over statements they allegedly made before the September 23 Pelangai by-election, Pahang police chief Yahaya Othman said.
He said the IPs were submitted to the deputy public prosecutor’s office last month.
He told a press conference at the Pahang police headquarters today that officers recorded the statements of five people in the investigation against Sanusi, including from the menteri besar himself.
Yahaya said Sanusi gave his statement on October 7 at the Manchis police station in Bentong.
He said the investigation was being carried out under section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948, section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, and section 4A(1) of the Election Offences Act 1954, over Sanusi’s statements at a September 22 ceramah.
He said the investigation into Shahril’s remarks was under section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948, section 233 Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, and section 505(b) of the penal code.
Shahril allegedly played up race, religion and royalty issues during a speech in Felda Sungai Kemahal, with a video of it uploaded on his TikTok account. – Bernama, November 7, 2023.
