1,122 flood evacuees in 13 relief centres at noon

THE number of flood evacuees in three states dropped to 1,122 in 13 relief centres at 12pm, compared with 1,483 people in 15 centres this morning.

Based on the latest report issued by the National Disaster Management Agency, the number of evacuees in Kelantan has dropped to 1,034 people, accommodated at nine relief centres, compared with 1,395 people in 11 relief centres earlier.

It said relief centres in Kelantan included six in Tumpat housing 744 people, two in Pasir Mas (housing 274) and one in Kuala Krai (housing 16).

IN PAHANG, the evacuee number remained unchanged at 34, who were sheltered at two relief centres in Maran, while 87 victims of the landslide in Cameron Highlands were still accommodated at one relief centre.

The number of evacuees in Johor remained unchanged at 54, who were accommodated at two relief centres in Segamat.

The Irrigation and Drainage Department found three rivers at the danger level.

They were Sungai Pulai in Johor (4.76m and rising), Sungai Golok in Kelantan (9.33m and decreasing), and Sungai Arau in Perlis (23.74m and decreasing).

The report also said 27 roads were closed due to floods, damaged bridges and landslides.

Among the affected roads were Jalan Kota Tinggi-Kluang in Johor, Jalan Sungai Sok-Chucuh Puteri in Kelantan; Jalan Raya Timur Barat Kupang-Gerik in Perak and Jalan Kuala Lumpur-Bentong in Pahang. – Bernama, January 1, 2024.
