Fewer flood victims in 4 states


THE number of flood victims in four states decreased as at 4pm today, with 10,895 people in 41 relief centres compared with 14,388 evacuees in 55 centres at 12pm, based on the latest flood report by the National Disaster Management Agency.

IN KELANTAN, the number of evacuees dropped to 10,354 at 29 relief centres compared with 13,529 people at 38 centres at 12pm.

The report said 29 centres were opened in four districts, including 13 in Pasir Mas (6,733 victims), 10 in Tumpat (3,099 victims), three in Jeli (455 victims) and three in Kuala Krai (67 victims).

In the status review of the Irrigation and Drainage Department’s Telemetry Station, three river level readings in Kelantan – Sungai Golok in Pasir Mas, Sungai Golok in Tanah Merah and Sungai Kelantan in Jeli – were at the danger level at 12pm.

IN TERENGGANU, the number of evacuees decreased to 354 at five relief centres compared with 659 at nine centres in Dungun and Kuala Terengganu at 12pm.

IN JOHOR, the number of flood victims decreased slightly to 54 at two relief centres in Segamat.

IN PAHANG, flood victims at five relief centres in Bera, Maran and Temerloh declined to 133 from 145 at 12pm.

The report said the number of victims displaced by a landslide in Cameron Highlands remained at 87, all of whom were sheltering at one relief centre.

The level of Sungai Perak in Hulu Perak and Sungai Arau in Perlis were also at danger level.

The report said there were 44 roads closed due to flooding, damaged/collapsed bridges and landslides.

Among the roads affected were Jalan Jabi-Bukit Tempurung in Johor, Jalan Pasir Mas-Pohon Tanjong in Kelantan, Jalan Marang-Wakaf Tapai in Terengganu, and Jalan Kuala Lumpur-Bentong in Pahang, and Jalan Bukit Kayu Hitam-Bukit Tangga Sintok in Kedah. – Bernama, December 30, 2023.
