Ulu Tiram police killer was Jemaah Islamiyah member, says IGP

A MAN who killed two policemen in the Ulu Tiram police station in Johor Baru early this morning is believed to have been a member of Jemaah Islamiyah.

Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said five family members of the suspect have been arrested to assist in the investigation into the attack.

Two complainants who filed reports on the attack have also been detained to assist in the probe.

A 24-year-old masked assailant stormed the police station about 2.45am today, armed with a gun and a parang.

Two policemen were killed and another officer was injured before the suspect was shot dead.

Jemaah Islamiyah is a militant group based in Indonesia, which is dedicated to the establishment of an Islamic state in Southeast Asia. It was founded by Muslim preacher Abu Bakar Bashir in the early 1990s.

The group is linked to al-Qaeda and was responsible for the 2002 Bali bombing attack. – May 17, 2024.
