Fewer flood evacuees in 5 states at 12pm


THE number of flood victims in Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Johor and Sabah, dropped to 26,914 as at 12pm today, compared with 28,032 at 8am.

The National Disaster Management Agency’s data showed the number of relief centres dropped to 131 from 137 this morning.

IN KELANTAN, there were 21,252 evacuees at 12pm today from 21,377 in the morning. They were housed at 67 relief centres in five districts, with Pasir Mas recording 18,293 evacuees.

IN TERENGGANU, the number of victims dropped to 5,359 at 53 relief centres from 6,289 people at 59 centres earlier. The affected districts included Besut, Dungun, Hulu Terengganu, Kemaman, Kuala Terengganu, Marang and Setiu.

IN JOHOR, there were 63 evacuees at four relief centres in Mersing and Segamat at 12pm compared with 121 victims in the morning.

IN PAHANG, there were 209 victims at five relief centres in four districts, including 87 landslide evacuees in Cameron Highlands.

IN SABAH, the number of evacuees was unchanged at 31, housed at two relief centres in Pitas.

Alert-level continuous rain was expected throughout the day in Pahang (Kuantan, Pekan and Rompin) and Johor (Segamat, Kluang, Mersing, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Baru). – Bernama, December 28, 2023.
