FLOODS in Terengganu, Kelantan, Selangor and Perak have worsened, with more evacuees at relief centres this morning.

IN TERENGGANU, 2,693 people have been evacuated to 37 relief centres in six districts as at 9am compared with 2,622 people at 36 centres at 8pm yesterday.

The Terengganu Flood Management Committee secretariat said Dungun was the worst-hit district with 1,687 victims at 14 relief centres, followed by Hulu Terengganu with 282 victims at seven centres.

There were 131 victims in three centres in Kemaman, 336 victims at eight centres in Setiu, 249 victims at four centres in Marang, and eight victims at one centre in Besut.

The Public InfoBanjir portal showed river levels at the state’s five main stations – Sungai Setiu at Jambatan Permaisuri, Sungai Chalok at Jambatan Chalok Bridge, Sungai Nerus in Kampung Jeram, Sungai Marang at Jambatan Pengkalan Berangan, and Sungai Tumpat in Kampung Baru Kemasik – have exceeded the alert level.

IN KELANTAN, the number of flood victims grew to 4,114 people as at 9am compared with 3,780 people last night.

The Social Welfare Department portal showed the victims were sheltering at 16 relief centres in Kuala Krai, Tanah Merah and Pasir Mas.

The centres in Pasir Mas, which is the worst-hit district, were SK Gual Tinggi, SK Sri Rantau Panjang, SK Gual To’Deh, SK Kampung Rahmat, SMK Gual Periok, SMK Baroh Pial, Masjid Mukim Padang Licin, SK Sri Kiambang, SMKA Lati and SK Lati.

In Tanah Merah, the victims were housed at Balai Raya Padang Kijang, SK Kulim and SMA Kajang, while in Kuala Krai, people were evacuated to a veterinary office and SK Banggol Guchil.

IN SELANGOR, according to the Info Bencana portal, the number of flood victims grew from 49 yesterday to 69 as at 9am today.

The latest centre to open was SRA Padang Jawa in Klang, with two existing ones – SK Jaya Setia and Parit Mahang Community Hall – for flood evacuees in Kuala Selangor.

The portal showed Sungai Binjai in Pekan Meru was at 4.29m at 8.30am today, which is the danger alert level.

IN PERAK, 80 victims were moved to the relief centre at the Padang Tembak Multipurpose Hall in Teluk Intan this morning compared with 30 victims last night.

Several areas in Changkat Jong were hit by floods yesterday.

The state Disaster Management Committee secretariat said the evacuees were from Batu 9, Lorong Kedah, Lorong Belakang Klinik, Lorong Sidang Osman, Batu 7, Batu 8 and Lorong Imam Khairi. – Bernama, December 17, 2023.
